In February 2024, we began our mission to not only deliver exceptional cleaning services but also to provide added value and cost savings for the Park House School in Newbury.

The previous contractor had failed to address the serious cleaning problems at this school, and the school had experienced poor service from cleaning contractors over an extended period. YBC undertook a complete overview of the service delivery to rectify issues with poor recruitment, re deployment of staff into workable cleaning programs, on site supervision control and regular local management involvement, introducing weekly / monthly KPI inspections and audits. We introduced a cost-effective output specification focused on priority areas and designed to deliver best value for Park House school.


Through the following cleaning initiatives, we aimed to improve site standards while reducing the overall cost of cleaning service provision:


Initial Deep Clean: One of our first initiatives involved bringing forward some of the school’s allocated deep clean hours. By conducting a thorough full-school clean before the contract commencement, we set the benchmark for our cleaning operatives, ensuring that they understood and met the expected standards from day one.


Rotational Scheduling: As this contract has an output specification, we introduced a rotational cleaning schedule. This involved splitting the school areas into two groups, where select tasks, such as vacuuming, are completed on alternate days for each group. Hygiene areas continued to be cleaned daily. If a particular area is not scheduled to be cleaned on a given day, our cleaning operatives take the initiative to address it as they think is necessary.


Systems Thinking: We also introduced Systems Thinking where staff assess each area as they navigate through the school, eliminating the need for re-cleaning clean areas and giving priority to surfaces and areas needing extra attention. By combining the rotational scheduling and systems thinking, we ensured that the school is continually cleaned to a high standard.


i-mop: To further enhance productivity and floor standards, we provided Park House School with an i-mop, a battery-operated scrubber drier. The introduction of the i-mop resulted in substantial improvements in cleaning standards, particularly in the maintenance of hard floors. With significantly reduced soilage and build-up on the altro safety flooring, the school experienced enhanced cleanliness and improved floor maintenance.


Professional Development: Committed to the continuous improvement of our staff, we planned to enrol our team at Park House School in the Cleaning Hygiene Operative Apprenticeship programme. By investing in their professional development, we aimed to foster skill enhancement and ensure that our team remains at the forefront of industry standards.


Through these initiatives, we not only provided superior cleaning services at Park House School but also delivered cost-effective solutions that contributed to the overall improvement of site standards.
